Don't Forget Your Office Needs A Spring Cleaning Too!
Spring Cleaning isn’t just for your home, it is essential to bring the same tradition to your work space! We spend so much of our time at the office and I am constantly writing about the positive aspects of clean and organized surroundings. Not only are you more productive while your surroundings are clean and organized but it also enhances the health of you and your colleagues. Here are a few simple tips and a checklist to make Spring Cleaning your office a little easier.
Don’t overwhelm yourself:
Start small with a plan in place. No matter the size of your office, dedicating a certain amount of time per day to complete the items on your check-off list will contribute to getting the entire job done.
Keep only the essentials that you use throughout the day within arm’s reach; i.e. computer, pens, note pad, etc. For the items that aren’t used as often, keep them close by in your drawer…… Of course this means it’s time to clean out and organize your drawers as well!! Stop using your drawers as an “out of sight, out of mind” filing system, it’s inefficient. If there are things cluttering up your office that you simply never use or you don’t need, get rid of it because it makes a significant difference when you have plenty room to work.
Cleaning out your digital clutter is essential— the more organized your computer/files are, the easier it will be for you to find what you need and be more efficient. From updating contacts, making sure you are operating on the latest software upgrades, uninstalling programs that you do not use, organizing your documents that you’ll need again to the cloud or memory stick and trashing or archiving the rest, to deleting/sorting emails. Spring comes once a year, and thank goodness so does digital spring cleaning.
Keep it going:
Find the time to keep up the CLEAN! Once you finally get your office cleaned and organized, take the time to keep it up by creating a checklist that you can stick to throughout the year and spend the last few minutes of the day putting things away so you are ready to walk in the next morning to start your day with a fresh clean beginning.
