SanServe Appliance Cleaning Tips and Tricks

While preparing healthy meals for your family, it is so important to handle food properly and to keep your kitchen appliances clean.   Appliances such as, refrigerators, freezers, ovens and microwaves are used on a daily basis, causing these appliances to easily accumulate grease, grime and then they become breeding grounds for bacteria and germs.

Not to worry, here are a few SanServe tips and tricks on how to keep your kitchen appliances not only hygienically clean, but also to lengthen their lifespan:

REFRIGERATOR

CUT THOSE BAD SMELLS OUT OF YOUR FRIDGE:

ALKA-SELTZER:

Place a tab of Alka-Seltzer in a glass at the back of the fridge to remove odor in a day

VANILLA EXTRACT:

Let 2-3 cotton balls sit in a pool of Vanilla extract on a plate at the back of the fridge

CLEANING UNDER THE FRIDGE:

Get rid of all of the cobwebs, dirt, dust and food droppings that land under the fridge with a yard stick covered by a tube sock.

FREEZER

SPRAY METHOD

Mix equal parts of hot water and vinegar, or 1 qt hot water with 2 tbs baking soda in a spray bottle.  Spray liberally inside of freezer.

CHARCOAL:

Purchase activated charcoal from a pet store, set in freezer to absorb odors.

OVEN

CLEAN A DIRTY OVEN:

When cooking, don't let food bake on and then cool if bubbled over.  Toss salt on spilled food while it is still liquid and after cooling, it will be easy to wipe up.  You can apply this trick to the stove top as well.

Create a solution of 5 T baking soda, 4 drops of Dawn soap and 4 T vinegar into a paste.  Apply to the surface of the oven with a sponge and let sit for 15 minutes. Cut a lemon in half, apply salt and scrub thoroughly with lemon, wipe clean.

STOVE

CLEANING GLASS STOVE TOP

Fill a bowl with hot water and mix with dish soap.  Wet a rag, then wring halfway dry.  Apply baking soda to spots and drip water with rag.  Let sit for 15 minutes and swirl the rag to clean surfacewith the paste.  Dry stovetop and it's good as new.

MICROWAVE

Take a handful of wet paper towels and microwave them for 3-5 minutes.  The steam will soften the grime, making it easier wipe with the paper towels once cooled.

Microwave a bowl of water and vinegar in a microwave safe bowl on high of 2 minute. Again, the steam will help break up any stubborn stains, wipe clean.

DISHWASHER

LEMONADE KOOL-AID

Run a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid in an empty dishwasher.  The citric acid will clean stains and lime deposits quickly.

TANG:

Use 1/2 of Tang instead of detergent and the the empty dishwasher on the normal cycle to avoid buildup.
